Dear Lakeshore-
Fifteen years ago today, Lakeshore Community Church was born. Our
beginnings were humble to be sure.
After Sue and I moved to Rochester, we painstakingly worked for about 10
months to build a small core group of people to launch public services;
31 adults and kids to be exact. Not all of them were deeply committed,
not all showed up regularly, few even knew what would happen when we
planned our first public service on Easter Sunday April 16, 1995. We
barely had enough people to do what we needed to do and we had to
"borrow" people from other churches. Our equipment was basic (and
that's putting it kindly). And our service was held in a dark, musty,
small bar at the Greece Marriot hotel. The odds were decidedly stacked
against us.
But we had faith anyway. And God showed up.
At that first service, 112 people showed up in response to our prayers,
our friend invites, and the first ever direct mail piece sent by a
church to the community. Three people committed their lives to Christ
that Easter and Lakeshore was born! And the church has come a long way
these fifteen years. Hundreds of lives have been redirected into faith
in Christ at Lakeshore all because we still strive to operate in faith
today.
To celebrate, we are holding our 15th anniversary event on Sunday, May
23 here at church. You'll hear more about it at church in the weeks
ahead. Get your tickets quick as there will be a limited number
available on a first come, first served basis due to size limitations.
This Sunday, we'll continue our Identity Theft series by looking at
"Recovering Your Stolen Identity". Building off what we've covered so
far (and I'll review it again Sunday), we'll provide three keys to
recovering the person who God intended you to be (and we long to be).
This is a great week to invite someone who needs to know who they can be
and struggles to get there... which is, like, all of us.
So Happy Birthday to us!
Vince
PS-On a personal note, I would appreciate your prayers for my mother.
She will be having heart surgery on Tuesday morning and I'll be flying
down to Florida to be with her. Pray that all goes well.
