Dear Lakeshore Family-
As we approach the July 4th Independence Day holiday on Sunday, I hope you'll take the time to appreciate what a great country we have. While things appear to be going in less than a positive direction the past few years, we still can thank God for so much.
I also hope that we'll appreciate the "freedom" we have in Jesus. This Sunday, we'll talk about "How To Stay Free Inside" and build on last Sunday's message. In some ways, it takes more diligence to "stay" free once we have been set "free indeed" by God. We'll look at three big enemies of freedom.
A few other items of note:
1) Today is the official half-way point of the three-year "Finishing The Work" campaign! Many thanks to everyone who has given "above and beyond" your regular giving to this effort. Your faithful giving is really important as we enter the summer. And I hope you're seeing the recent fruit of your giving. Last Sunday was the first week with our new sound board and speakers all working together. While we're still learning and tuning it for optimal use, it is easy to hear the dramatic difference in quality and uniformity of sound we now have. It only happened thanks to your generous giving.
On another note, we're in the process of beginning the construction of the Waves Café in July thanks to a surprise gift designated for the project. Our hope is to be up and running in August with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The team working on this project is excited and we've been able to save lots of money on furnishings and labor. The mission of Waves Café is to "make a global impact" around the world by having all proceeds derived from it used to fund mission trips around the world. So every time you purchase coffee, you'll be funding someone going on a mission trip to bring the Good News to people around the globe. That's "making a global impact!" Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled.
2) Next Sunday, July 11 is our next Baptism Orientation Class after the 11am service. I hope those of you who have committed your life to Christ by faith will also by faith get baptized on Saturday, July 31 at 11am. This no-obligation class will explain the biblical reasons that God commands every true believer to be baptized after they believe. Sign up at church Sunday or call the church office ASAP.
3) Community Group Training will be held on just one day this year, Saturday, July 24. For first time trainees, sign up for "Basic" training. For those who have just taken "Basic", sign up for "Advanced" training. For those who have completed both, simply sign up for "Alumni" training and attend the final ½ hour of training to learn more about the "God Is Closer Than You Think" curriculum taught by John Ortberg, currently Sr. Pastor at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church but formerly a top teaching Pastor at Willow Creek Community Church. This series will help us see God in the everyday areas of life that we sometimes miss and we need at least 30 groups to accommodate all the people expected to sign up (potentially as many as 400 people). Please sign up using the form available at church.
I hope to see you Thursday at 7pm for Common Ground Midweek service. We'll take a look at the fascinating closing chapters of the Book Of Revelation including the Second Coming of Christ to earth and all that follows it. Don't miss it!
Warmly-
Vince
