Hi Everyone:
Following is a prayer request for Kim Liebrand's mom and family. I'll cut and paste the facts from a couple of emails...
7/14 - Hi Lillian,
If you would please pass on our prayer request for my Mom. Her name is Shirlene Palmer. She and my Dad (Osmond) are founding members at Journey Christian Church (West Side Baptist) and are strong Christians. They recently moved to Fleming Point (Independent Living) and are normally fairly active for their age and ailments.
My Mom fell Sunday night at their apartment and cut her hands. My Dad couldn't stop the bleeding so he called 911. They checked her out at the hospital and discovered she fractured her C1 (first vertebra of her spine). They now have her in a20neck brace and she is recovering at Park Ridge.
The big issues (which complicate this) are; she's 86, has Osteoporosis and Arthritis pretty bad, a swallowing issue and Parkinson's. Her tremors have increased (usually controlled by her meds, but stress events augment them) and although she normally does not have dementia, that too rears it's ugly head during times like this. She's currently confused, hallucinating some, and doesn't know where she is. She is also sleep deprived as she is afraid to close her eyes. Whenever she
drifts off to sleep she has nightmares about falling, being chased, going down a river backwards, etc. She then comes out of these episodes with frantic jerking motions which are obliviously not good for her neck. The doctors finally medicated her a little last night, but with all her issues they don't dare give her much (she also only weighs 99 lbs).
Any and all prayers are coveted; for her, my Dad and the rest of us trying to work through this.
Thank you,
Kim
7/15 - Hi again,
Mom is really improving!!! Praise God.
She improved SO MUCH by yesterday afternoon that last night they were talking about releasing her TODAY!!! We expressed our concerns vigorously but didn't make much headway.
This morning a Resident Physician stated he wasn't comfortable enough with her baseline to release her (also praise God). Not that we don't want her home, it's just that we're not convince she's consistently at a level where she can be home SAFELY.
So please thank everyone for their prayers and ask them to keep them coming - especially for wisdom and healing. She will need to wear the neck brace 24/7 for 12 weeks and maybe more because of her age and ailments, and my Dad will have his hands full helping her (and he's 84 and has his own health issues). This is the beginning of a long road to recovery.
In Him,
Kim
